G42 is looking for a Director – Research & Development who will be working out of its office located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The job entails leading and directing the portfolio of applied AI research, including initiatives in the development of innovations such as foundation language models, multi-agent systems, and AI strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Applied AI research portfolio, including roadmapping, milestones, and resource management.
  • Lead language model foundation research from pre-training to evaluation and production release.
  • Lead multi-agent AI research and high-profile customer program deliveries.
  • Provide R&D strategy, updates, and technical directions to executive leadership and Board members.
  • Establish strategic relationships with research organizations, AI research labs, and technology partners.
  • Mentor Applied Scientists and set up R&D standards for talent development.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field in AI.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in AI/ML, out of which 4 years in a directorial or technical leadership position.
  • Proven experience in releasing production language foundation models.
  • Proven expertise in NLP, Large Language Models, Applied Machine Learning, and Agentic AI Systems.
  • Deploying AI systems in regulated or government contexts is highly desirable.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills.
